Getting a basketball court may be a little more complicated than you think. A common issue most people don’t think about is the requirements from their township. Most towns require that you cannot build within a certain amount of feet from the rear and side property lines as well as the amount of space that can be covered on your lot.
Every town is different when it comes to these requirements and within every town there can be as many as 50 different zones all with different rules. If you are part of an HOA you will have to get the HOA’s approval before the town will even look at your zoning application.
Here at DeShayes we handle all of this time consuming, tedious research for you. Still, there are instances where at first glance a court may not seem feasible due to issues with lot coverage. However, there is a solution.
This client was close to exceeding their lot coverage. We installed large pervious court panels which measure 2.3×2.3 ft. instead of smaller tiles which measure 10-12 inches that are designed to be installed on a hard surface like concrete and asphalt. The runoff coefficient for panels is less than the runoff coefficient for the same area of grass. This allows you to have your Dream Court without having to worry about exceeding lot coverage.
